Donald Changes Coach To Compete In Majors

Luke Donald has not had the best of times recently on the golf course especially in the majors. It wasn’t that long ago he was he was totally in control of his game and topped the money list on both side of the Atlantic but that is now a distant memory.

All of this has brought a change in his approach and he has decided to seek out the services of American coach Chuck Cook to try and get his long game back into shape.

Cook has coached players such as Payne Stewart and Tom Kite and has recent major success with Jason Dufner.

He will still be going to his long time coach Pat Goss for advice on his short game but feels he needs a different approach and point of view on his long game.

Donald also believes that he needs a change in philosophy if he is going to claim one of the four majors next year.

Positive Attitude Sees Dufner Over The Line

Well he has finally done it after 2 years of hurt since he threw away a big lead at the PGA Championship in 2011 held in Atlanta. He was then beaten by good friend Keegan Bradley in a thrilling play-off and it was Bradley that was first to congratulate him after his triumph last evening.

In his speech he said that his ‘aggressive attitude paid off’, and it was a terrific final round of golf which saw him reach four under par through sixteen holes.

Furyk tried his best to keep in touch, and was two behind with two holes left, but both players could only mange bogeys in the last two holes of play which was enough to give Dufner the title that he so thoroughly deserved.

We that’s for the majors this year which is hard to believe, I really think they need to add another major between the PGA Championship and The Masters. There is too much of a break. If they had one in October that would space things out nicely. Let me know what you think?

Ice Cool Dufner On Winning Streak

Jason Dufner holed  a superb 25-foot birdie putt on the 18th green to claim a dramatic one-stroke victory at the Byron Nelson Championship yesterday.

It rounded off a memorable few weeks for Dufner who won his first PGA Tour title in New Orleans at the end of April before getting married to wife Amanda.

The American is only the second man to win multiple titles on the American circuit this season, and is set to make his Ryder Cup debut in September when America host the Ryder Cup.

Dufner who led by a shot overnight started poorly in his final round and surrendered his lead after dropping shots at the second and third.

He bounced back with birdies on the fourth, fifth and seventh to take his score to nine-under through seven holes, but that was  still only sharing the lead with playing partner JJ Henry who made an ace at the fifth.

As the tournament was reaching a close a host of players were  fighting it out for position at the top of the leaderboard with Dickie Pride making an unlikely par on the 18th be tied with Dufner.

Dufner hit his best drive of the day on the last leaving him 109 yards to the hole. He didn’t hit the best approach and left himself a downhill right to left putt which he brilliantly holed and left veteran Dickie Pride alone in second.

Dufner beats Els to gain maiden victory

Jason Dufner finally won his first PGA Tour event after beating Ernie Els in a play-off for the Zurich Classic.

Dufner has been knocking on the door now for a while and this was the third play-off of his career. Most recently losing out to Keegan Bradley in The PGA Championship last year in an incredible finish.

Els and Dufner were locked together after 72 holes after the South African had made up three shots on the overnight leader with a solid round of 67.

But Dufner, looked nervy down the stretch in a closing 70 and went into the play-off as the underdog as Els seemed to be the man on form.

So off down the 18th they went both hitting good drives and both missing birdie putts  – first Dufner from eight feet and then Els from slightly closer in – and so they went back down the par-five for the third time in the day.

This time Dufner rolled his long putt up nearer the hole with Els just off the green in three after finding the bunker off the tee.

Els was unable to threaten the cup with his birdie putt leaving the American to tap in for his maiden victory after three runner-up finishes.

I think we’ll be seeing Dufner feature a lot more now he’s got his first victory under his belt. He is a massive talent with a cool head.

Rookie Bradley Wins US PGA

Keegan Bradley, ranked 108th in the world, beat Jason Dufner in a three-hole play-off to win his first ever major at the US PGA.

The 25-year-old American triumphed by one shot over his fellow countryman over the extra holes after they had both finished level at eight under in Atlanta.

Incredibly, Bradley had triple-bogeyed the 15th, giving Dufner a five-shot lead with just three holes to play,  but fought back as his rival seemingly suffered an attack of nerves.

Top two in the world, Luke Donald and Lee Westwood both halved their six-shot deficits on Sunday but fell away towards the end to both finish on three under.

Bradley went into the final day one shot behind  Dufner and after a shaky start, an eagle on the 12th hole saw him join his compatriot at the top of the leaderboard on nine under.

However he then chipped through the green into the water on the 15th, before back-to-back birdies on the next two holes.

34-year-old Dufner also found water on the 15th, this time from the tee, and this  sparked a spectacular downfall, as his bogey on the same hole, plus two more on the 16th and 17th saw him drop back alongside Bradley.

In the play-off, Bradley birdied the first hole, the 16th, to Dufner’s par and then made par on the short 17th as Dufner once again bogied. Dufner birdied the 18th but Bradley’s par was enough to hand him the Wanamaker Trophy and become the first American to clinch a major title since Phil Mickelson won the Masters in 2010.
