Tiger Woods finds form in the Australian Open

Tiger Woods returned to form to hit a five-under-par 67 and establish the lead in the Australian Open.

The former world number one carded seven birdies and two bogeys to move to nine under in total on day two.

“It feels good to actually be there playing properly instead of slashing the ball all over the place,” said Woods, who leads Australia’s Peter O’Malley by one shot.

“I felt like I really didn’t miss a shot.”

Woods, who started the day three shots behind overnight leader Jarrod Lyle, will have to maintain his form if he is to stay ahead of the chasing pack.

Local veteran O’Malley, 46, is one shot behind after carding a six-under-par 66, the lowest score of the day, with Australia’s world number seven Jason Day a further shot back in third on seven under after a 68.

An Insight Into The Clubs That I Use

The TaylorMade Tour Preferred MB Irons are one of the best sets of tour blades on the market, and also the clubs that I use. They not only look fabulous – they feel and perform great. But believe me they’re hard to hit if you’re not on you game!

These tour blades are designed with the low handicap golfer and professional in mind. These tour irons offer very little forgiveness compared with game improvement irons. This irons are great if you like to feel how you have hit the golf shot and like to manoevre the ball in different ways as opposed to the club dictating the flight of the golf ball.

Kingsbarns Golf Links Awarded Golf Course of the Year at Golf at Scotland Gold Standard Awards

One of my favourite golf courses Kingsbarns Golf Links was voted the Golf Course of the Year at last night’s Golf Tourism Scotland (GTS) Gold Standard Awards held at the Fairmont.  The Awards are recognised as the industry Oscars and celebrate the greatest achievements throughout the industry from courses to hotels and resorts, tour operators, golf secretariats, caddie masters and transport companies. It is a great showcase for the who’s who in golf.

It was named Course of the Year for the 4 time ahead of some of the leading courses in Scotland including Balcomie Links (Crail), the Carnoustie Championship Course, Castle Stuart Golf Links, Gullane No 2, Machrihanish Dunes, the New Course, St Andrews, North Berwick West Links, Pitlochry, the Old Course St Andrews, the Torrance Course (Fairmont St Andrews), the Ailsa Course at Turnberry and Western Gailes.

Designed in 1912 by John Frederick Abercromby (Aber) who was accredited as being ‘one of the finest architects in all of golf’, The Addington is a masterpiece of inland golf.

The golf course has remained virtually unchanged since its design 95 years ago which is testament to the skilled design ability of Aber who looked upon The Addington as his finest creation. Ranked in the world’s Top 100 Golf Courses in Great Britain and Ireland The Addington is a hidden gem just waiting to be played. The course has some truly memorable holes that will remain amongst some of your finest golfing memories for many years to come.

With a heart-wrenching loss at Augusta and an explosive win at the U.S. Open

Rory McIlroy was playing in the North of Ireland Championship at Royal Portrush in July 2005. As a 2-year-old, he had poked a 40-yard drive; at 15, he had played for Europe’s winning Junior Ryder Cup team.

But now, at 16, his McNificence was still largely a matter of conjecture. He’d been left off Great Britain & Ireland’s 10-man Walker Cup team that would travel to Chicago to play the United States that September, a conspicuous, controversial omission. The kid still had much to prove at Portrush.

Sergio Wins Two On The Bounce

Sergio Garcia climbed back into golf’s world’s top 20 with a victory in the Andalucia Masters at Valderrama in Spain.

Garcia, 31, started the day two shots clear of compatriot Miguel Angel Jimenez and survived a shaky start to take his second title in a week.

The Spaniard ended a three-year title drought last weekend with an emphatic 11-shot victory at the Castello Masters and closed out victory with a 71.

Jimenez led at the turn but finished a shot back on five under after a 70.

Scotland’s Richie Ramsay, leader going into the weekend, briefly jumped into a share of the lead with Garcia on the back nine, only to shank his tee shot on the par-three 15th.

His ball was only found after the five-minute search time had elapsed and the resulting double bogey effectively ended his hopes.

It’s great to see Sergio’s hunger back for golf, and he actually seemed to be enjoying the fight on the back nine with Jimenez.

Jimenez was playing some great golf at times and was desperately unlucky with a couple of birdie putts that so nearly dropped in the closing stretch.

Watching the event live on TV bought back a lot of memories of the Ryder Cup in 1997, especially watching Sergio playing the 18th reminded me of when Colin Montgomerie hit a brilliant tee shot and managed to close out victory against Scott Hoch in what was one of the best Ryder Cups ever!

Junior Golf Lessons In West London

I was lucky enough to have golf lessons in London from a young age and I fondly remember the Junior Group Coaching sessions that I took part in as a kid.

The professionals that taught me back then inspired me to improve and to eventually become a professional golfer, so I take great pride in teaching the youngsters of today, in the hope that they may become the golfers of tomorrow.

I cover all of the basics and the juniors will also enjoy some fun games and drills that they can practice away from the club.

I can also provide golf equipment free of charge for use during the coaching session, which typically lasts for one hour.

Golf is a great way to meet people, especially for the kids, they can interact with other kids from different backgrounds and all enjoy this great game together!

Please click here to see the forthcoming Junior Event Dates – there are some great events planned for half term!

McIlroy joins best pal McDowell

US Open champion Rory McIlroy has split with his manager Andrew Chandler.

The 22-year-old Northern Irishman has been with Chandler’s International Sports Management company since turning professional in 2007.

A spokesman for ISM said: “There has been no falling out, it is amicable. He is joining his great friend Graeme McDowell at Horizon.”

In a statement, Chandler said: “We have had a brilliant year. Rory has grown and he leaves us as a major champion.”

McIlroy became the youngest winner of the US Open since Bobby Jones in 1923 when he won by eight shots at Congressional in June.

It capped a remarkable  four years of golf for the world number three who turned professional after the 2007 Walker Cup.

Taking Golf Lessons To The Course

Your  first series of golf lessons will typically take place on the driving range, and one of our short game areas where balls can be hit successively in order to practise and hone your game. This is ideal for perfecting the different types of shots, learning about distance, distance control and being able to do this at your own pace.

The game itself is of course played on a golf course, and after the initial practise it’s here that the fun really starts, your be amazed how different it is playing on the course than on the range.

Dukes Meadows Golf Club has a superb nine-hole course, with fantastic greens, great scenery and some challenging holes – it’s perfect for beginners and experienced players alike, and it’s a great way to spend some time in the fresh air and with friends!
