Europe Face Tough Test In Solheim Cup

It’s the start of the Solheim Cup  tomorrow and it’s going to a tough test for the European team this time round as they go to the Colorado Golf Club as the underdogs even though they are the holders.

The team has said that they are going to come out fighting against a strong USA team and will take the battle to them from the off.

Having the home advantage is key in these events especially as the Americans have the strong support of their fans behind them, and the European team will have to be mentally strong to keep the fans out of their heads in what is normally a hostile crowd.

The Solheim Cup is live on Sky Sports 1 HD and the opening ceremony will take place at 11pm tomorrow night.

C’mon Europe!

My Betting Tips For The US PGA Championship

With the start of the US PGA Championship at Oak Hill imminent, I have selected four players who I think have not only got a great chance of winning the last of the four majors, but which I think are the best value.

So here are my four picks:

Carl Pettersson – 201/1

Bill Haas – 56/1

Keegan Bradley – 36/1

Fredrik Jacobson – 176/1

Really looking forward to the four days of golf ahead, I think it will be a really good event to watch, and think it will go down to the wire come Sunday night!

If you have had a bet then good luck, if you haven’t then enjoy watching!

Can McIlroy Salvage His Disastrous Season?

Well as I’m sure you know, we  have another big weekend of golf ahead. It’s the Bridgestone Invitational in America, at Firestone Country Club, a tournament that has been dominated by Tiger Woods over recent years.

It’s the last tournament before the final major of the year at Oak Hill, and it seems like only yesterday we were talking about the start of The Masters!

Rory McIlroy who won the US PGA last year will be hoping for a good week at Firestone so he can feel in good spirits when he goes to defend his title next week.

McIlroy says he feels in a positive frame of mind this week, and  feels even better than he did last year when he also had a bit of a slump before the same event.

It really is a big couple of weeks for McIlroy, he will want to get a top 10 finish in either of the next two tournaments and then carry that on until the end of the year. Once you get out of the habit of finishing in the top 10 every week, it can be very hard to get back into that habit, and he will be concerned however much he might come across as not being.

My Betting Tips For The US Open

Just a couple of days now until the second major of the year gets underway at Merion Golf Club, the first time it’s been held there since 1981 when it was won by Australian David Graham.

So we don’t know a huge amount about the golf course or how players have performed there in the past, so when it comes to betting it’s very difficult to pick a winner here.

The last 5 years have seen different styles of winner:

2008 – Tiger Woods

2009 – Lucas Glover

2010 – Graeme McDowell

2011 – Rory McIlroy

2012 – Webb Simpson

2013 – ?

But there is someone who has a bit of form around this golf course, Rickie Fowler played exceptionally well when he played there in the Walker Cup in 2009. So my betting tips are as follows…

Rickie Fowler   67/1

Graeme McDowell   23/1

Rory McIlroy 23/1

Good luck if you have a bet, and enjoy watching the golf!

Gallacher Aiming For Ryder Cup Spot On Home Turf

Although the Ryder Cup is well over a year away, it’s in the thoughts of many people already and will continue to be for the next 12 months as the European players battle it out in the Ryder Cup Standings.

Stephen Gallacher is one of the players keen to make the team this time round and admits he would relish the chance of playing the prestigious event in his home country Scotland.

Gallacher’s family have a history in the Ryder Cup as his uncle Bernard has captained the side three times but unfortunately only winning once. That victory came at Oak Hill in America which saw the memorable scenes of Seve and Nick Faldo hugging and crying on the 18th green after Phillip Walton saw off Jay Hass in the penultimate group.

Gallacher is going to have to play extremely well if he is to make the team at Gleneagles as there are some players who will equally want to play their part. I think at best he will have to rely on a captains pick from Paul McGinley.

Golf Lessons Are A Great Present

A golf lesson can be a great gift to give someone as a birthday present, Christmas present, Mothers Day/Fathers Day present or just a gift for someone who you want to say thanks to.

Golf is a game that many people watch and enjoy on television but many do not end up trying it out for themselves because they don’t think they will fit into the golf surroundings.

People seem to perceive golf as a snobby and expensive sport, which  years ago you could argue that it was but this isn’t the case any more, golf is a game for everyone to enjoy.

I teach golf to people from all walks of life, and all get a great sense of enjoyment out of learning something new and meeting new people in the process which inevitably leads to long lasting friendships and great camaraderie.

I was sitting down with a group of people that I teach the other night, we had a lawyer, builder, IT consultant, business owner, author, plumber and someone who was unemployed,  all sitting around after a game around the par 3 course. We may not all have a lot in common, but we certainly had one thing in common…….and that is golf.

So if you’ve been thinking about getting a present for someone or you just want to start a up a new hobby or even just meet some new people for a drink ,then contact me here and I can give you all the information that you need.

Chinnarat Phadungsil Plays Best Round Of His Life

Something happened today that we don’t see that often. No not a round of 58 but a back nine of 28 from Thailand’s Chinnarat Phadungsil who produced some scintillating golf in the opening round the Avantha Masters.

The 25 year old who won his maiden event at the age of 17 ended up carding a round of 61 and leads the tournament by five shots and said that it was the best round of golf he has ever played.

He managed seven successive birdies in a round of eleven birdies in total and with no dropped shots.

There are five players tied for second at the end of today’s play who will be hoping Phadungsil won’t have such a good day tomorrow!

My Major Betting Tips Coming Soon

Well it’s coming to that time of year again, the sun is trying its best to come out, the golf clubs may have made an appearance on the course and you’re all wondering what my betting tips are for the majors!

This is a very exciting time for golf fans, all we can think about is the first major of the year, and for me The Masters is one of the greatest golf competitions in the world. It really is a pleasure to watch the best players in the world playing on the most beautiful golf course in the world, and because the BBC have some of the coverage as well it really does attract new golfers to come and try out this wonderful game, purely because they are mesmerized by the beauty of Augusta.

Those of you that took advantage of my betting tips last year will know that I backed Webb Simpson to win the US Open and nearly got the winner of The Masters! So keep your eye open for my tips that will be posted this Friday!

Take a look at last years betting tips for the four majors here

Poulter Back In Top 10 Of World Rankings Once Again

England’s Ian Poulter has managed to get himself back into the top 10 in the world once again by coming fourth in the WGC-Accenture Match Play.

Poulter battled it out yesterday in the semi-final against Hunter Mahan before unfortunately losing 4&3 to the American, but it was still good enough to see him move up three places in the world rankings.

Poulter was the top European in the field of 64 taking part last week and with a slightly better putting display could’ve progressed into the final.

He has a pretty record in this event as you would imagine, and did win it back in 2010. He loves match play and loves the whole camaraderie that comes with it.

I get the feeling that this could be a good year for Ian Poulter. He seems more focused than ever and has matured quite a lot in recent years as a person and as a player.

Play To Get Back Underway In Arizona

Play is to get back underway in Arizona after yesterday’s amazing snow deluge as the snow is starting clear. Players  will be heading out to get there matches finished from yesterday with Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods still yet to tee-off.

The snow was quite a sight as you’re not used to seeing  it happen in the desert or on live television golf coverage, but the snow is still visible today and will make it harder for the players.

Garcia will be hoping to close out his match quickly as he is 2 up with three holes still to play and Ian Poulter will be hoping to do the same being 3 up with six still to play.

Conditions will be suiting the European players more at the moment, so don’t be surprised to see an all European final come Sunday.
