Amazing Grace Claims Title At The Home Of Golf

Branden Grace shot a closing round of 70 to win the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship by two shots at the home of golf. He didn’t make it easy for himself after a dodgy part in the middle of his third round on Saturday, but recovered well to beat off a late charge from Thorbjorn Olesen.

He was four shots clear overnight and five shots clear after birdieing the first hole in the final round. But at one stage he was tied with Olesen walking off the 11th green but hit back with three straight birdies at 12, 13 and 14 which put him clear of the field again in a tournament which he had led from day one after a blistering round of 60 at Kingsbarns.

The young South African kept his nerve and despite a bogey at 17  managed to hold on and win for the fourth time this season.

Grace finished at 22 under par matching last years winning score from Michael Hoey.

I believe there is much more to come from this player, maybe even a major next season?

The Open golf championship to return to St. Andrews in 2015

The Open Golf Championship is set to return to the home of golf after it was confirmed the tournament will be held at St Andrews in 2015.

The announcement means the Old Course will have hosted the competition a total of 29 times, which is the most any course has ever hosted the event.

Golf’s governing body, the R&A, said St Andrews had proven itself a worthy host for the championship, which was last held at the course in 2010.

The sport is big business in Scotland, worth £220m to the economy.

R&A chief executive Peter Dawson said: “St Andrews has proved time and again that it is perfectly equipped to host The Open and I am certain we will yet again see a worthy winner lift the claret jug.

“Players, spectators and officials alike will welcome a return to the game’s spiritual home and I fully expect that we will witness another thrilling championship.”

The open will take place between 16 and 19 July 2015

Euan Loudon, chief executive of St Andrews Links Trust, said: “We are very much looking forward to welcoming The Open championship back to the links.

“There is always a special sense of anticipation when The Open is played on the Old Course and it promises to be no different in 2015.

“Almost every great champion in the game has played here and there is no more fitting celebration of the rich heritage of the home of golf than hosting golf’s oldest major championship.”

South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen won the 2010 Open by seven shots with a 16-under par total of 272.

A Golfing Weekend In Scotland

I was lucky enough to spend some time playing at Kingsbarns (Scotland) last week and it has gone straight into my top three courses, alongside Old Head (Kinsale) and Waterville, both in Ireland.

Kingsbarns had everything – amazing scenery and views, and a tough golf course in fantastic condition. The staff and service were also magnificent.

All round it was a thoroughly enjoyable place, that I 100% recommend.

Whilst in Scotland I also paid a visit to St Andrews where I took in a bit of the history and tradition of golf, walking the 17th and 18th.

The Himalayas Putting Green at St Andrews is also worth a try as this really tests your green reading, good luck with putting those holes!

What’s your favourite course and why? Let me know on my Facebook page… would love to hear from you.
