My Betting Tips For The Open 2014

The excitement is building as the third major of the season approaches, and in most peoples opinion, the biggest of them all (I might be a little biased.)

You great thing about The Open Championship is that you never quite know what to expect in terms of conditions as they can change so quickly within a matter of minutes, which makes it so hard to prepare for if you aren’t used to playing links golf.

Player’s like Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy have grown up playing links golf, but will only probably benefit if the wind gets up, then they could come into their own.

The conditions look pretty good for the next few days though and it could get hard and bouncy, and with the narrow fairways could prove to be a test, I think we will be seeing a lot of irons off the tee come the weekend.

So after all said and done, here are my betting tips:

Rickie Fowler 40/1

Tiger Woods 22/1

Sergio Garcia 25/1

Miguel Angel Jimenez 80/1

Luiten Claims Victory In Home Country

Congratulations to Joost Luiten who became the first Dutchman since Maarten Lafeber to win his national open.

It wasn’t all plain sailing for Luiten who had to battle hard against in-form Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez. It was pretty much a two horse race in the final round at the Kennemer Golf Club, and both players had to contend with a strong swirling wind too.

It was literally a battle to the end which saw both players dropping shots and both having to hole short putts on the 18th which saw them tied and forced into a play-off against each other.

Jimenez left himself a five footer for par which lipped out and left Luiten a simple two putt to claim victory in his home country.

Montgomerie Backs New European Ryder Cup Captain McGinley

Colin Montgomerie has told Paul McGinley that he has his backing and will support him  in every way he can after the Dubliner was appointed Ryder Cup captain for the 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles.

The European Tour committee  confirmed McGinley as captain yesterday evening in Abu Dhabi ahead of the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship which starts tomorrow. McGinley had to fight off a few strong contenders to get the position including  Scotland’s Sandy Lyle and Spains Miguel Angel Jimenez.

Montgomerie who has a fantastic record in the Ryder Cup matches and won as captain in 2010 was a late contender for the job after it was announced the Tom Watson would be leading the US team out to battle. But is was McGinley who was successful.

Montgomerie said he is confident that McGinley has the experience after two Ryder Cups as vice-captain.
