Germany V Belgium – Who Will Win Last Spot?

It’s coming to the business end of the Ryder Cup and Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts comes into this week’s Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles chasing that all important final automatic spot in the star studded European Team. Sergio Garcia’s win in the states yesterday earned the Spaniard a place in what I think is going to be a great Ryder Cup at Medinah Country Club.

Garcia took the eighth spot in the qualification standings after claiming his first  win for four years on the US PGA Tour and in the process pushed Martin Kaymer to tenth place and unfortunately Ian Poulter out of the automatic places. But I’m confident that Poulter will get a pick from captain Olazabal.

But as Kaymer  is not playing this week in Scotland, Nicolas Colsaerts has a great opportunity to claim the final place for the European Team, I was lucky enough to play golf with Colsaerts a couple of years ago and let me tell you, that boy can hit a golf ball! The Ryder Cup takes place at the Illinois venue from September 28-30.

Sergio Garcia’s Ace Voted Shot Of The Month

Sergio Garcia’s first hole-in-one on The European Tour career has been voted Shot of the Month for January by fans of The European Tour.

Garcia ripped the perfect seven iron shot on the 186-yard par 3 12th hole in the first round of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, with the ball pitching on the back plateau of the green and rolling into the cup.

The ace won Garcia a three-night stay at the Emirates Palace every year for the rest of his life, and was the undoubted highlight of his opening round of 69. He went on to finish in a tie for 12th place to continue a fine run of recent form which has not seen the Spaniard finish outside the top 12 in a stroke play event on The European Tour since last August.

I’ve had a couple of hole-in-ones and it’s a great feeling, the feeling of doing it in front of a crowd and in front of millions of viewers must be something special.

Some people say that getting a hole-in-one is lucky, and yes there is an element of luck to it, but if you hit enough good shots that have got a chance of going in then you deserve the little bit of luck that you might get along the way!

Sergio Wins Two On The Bounce

Sergio Garcia climbed back into golf’s world’s top 20 with a victory in the Andalucia Masters at Valderrama in Spain.

Garcia, 31, started the day two shots clear of compatriot Miguel Angel Jimenez and survived a shaky start to take his second title in a week.

The Spaniard ended a three-year title drought last weekend with an emphatic 11-shot victory at the Castello Masters and closed out victory with a 71.

Jimenez led at the turn but finished a shot back on five under after a 70.

Scotland’s Richie Ramsay, leader going into the weekend, briefly jumped into a share of the lead with Garcia on the back nine, only to shank his tee shot on the par-three 15th.

His ball was only found after the five-minute search time had elapsed and the resulting double bogey effectively ended his hopes.

It’s great to see Sergio’s hunger back for golf, and he actually seemed to be enjoying the fight on the back nine with Jimenez.

Jimenez was playing some great golf at times and was desperately unlucky with a couple of birdie putts that so nearly dropped in the closing stretch.

Watching the event live on TV bought back a lot of memories of the Ryder Cup in 1997, especially watching Sergio playing the 18th reminded me of when Colin Montgomerie hit a brilliant tee shot and managed to close out victory against Scott Hoch in what was one of the best Ryder Cups ever!

Sergio Wins First Golf Tournament For Three Years

Sergio Garcia ended his three-year wait for a tournament victory by winning the Castello Masters by 11 shots in Spain.

The 31-year-old had taken an eight-shot lead into the final day and dominated again with a superb round of 63 on the Club de Campo del Mediterraneo course where he was boys champion aged 12.

Garcia, who was the tournament promoter, finished with his ninth birdie of the day for a 27-under total.

It gave the Spaniard his ninth European Tour career victory.

His compatriot Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano finished second after a 64 – although his round was spoiled slightly by two bogeys at the 17th and 18th while Scotland’s Richie Ramsay and Sweden’s Alex Noren were a shot further back on 15 under.

Garcia’s victory, his second in four years in the event, beat the previous biggest winning margin of the European Tour season by three shots.

Larrazabal Beats Garcia To Take International Open Title In Munich

Pablo Larrazabal beat Sergio Garcia in a dramatic play-off to win the International Open in Munich.

It was on the  fifth additional hole that Garcia three-putted, handing the title to Larrazabal.

The Spaniards had each led throughout the final day, and Larrazabel was set to win before Garcia birdied the last, which tied the pair at 16 under.

Garcia has been without a tournament win since November 2008 and has slumped to 64th in the world rankings.

But the former world number two has at least qualified for next month’s Open Championship thanks to this result.
