Last night saw Brandt Snedeker win the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup as he claimed he felt like a lottery winner after his victory in Atlanta earning him a staggering £7million.

The American won by 3 shots over Justin Rose after a nerveless final round – The challenge from world No.1 Rory McIlroy’s and world no.2 Tiger Woods never materialised after both got off to poor starts and could never recover.

Snedeker carded 68 in his final 18 holes to finish on 10-under par.

“It’s a little bit crazy,” said Snedeker.

Luke Donald shot a three under par final round to finish third and get himself into the top 10 of the overall FedEx standings.

Lee Westwood had another bad at the office and finished last in the thirty man field, hopefully he can find form going into Friday morning in The Ryder Cup.

The signs weren’t encouraging for the European players, let’s hope that the had their mind on Medinah already otherwise we could be in trouble!

Ryder Cup player Paul Lawrie has found himself at his highest position on the world rankings a week before the Ryder Cup after a 13 year absence from the competition.

The Aberdeen-born major winner played in the European team who lost in the controversial Ryder Cup when it was held at Brookline, in 1999, the year of his British Open victory.

So next week is when it all kicks off at Medinah Country Club in Chicago involving 24 of the worlds top 35 players, 17 of which will also compete this week at the Tour Championship.

All of the American team have made it through to the final of the FedEx Cup play-offs, plus the best player in the world right now Rory McIlroy who leads the season-long cash-grab race for the $10million pay day.

It’s going to be an exciting couple of weeks of golf ahead. Can Rory keep his nerve and win the big pot? Will his mind be on the Ryder Cup? Who will win the Ryder Cup? These are all questions that will be answered very soon!

Man of the moment Rory McIlroy won his third tournament in his last four starts with a convincing two-shot victory over Phil Mickelson and Lee Westwood in the BMW Championship at Crooked Stick.

McIlroy who started the day one shot behind leaders Vijay Singh and Phil Micklelson managed to get clear and separated himself from a star-studded leaderboard including Tiger Woods who finished three back on seventeen under par with a closing five-under 68.

The 23 year old Northern Irishman goes into FedEx Cup finale in the Tour Championship at Eastlake in two weeks time as favourite to take home the  $10m jackpot.

The thing that the rest of the field must find a little worrying is how easy he makes the game look under so much pressure and how little fuss he makes about going about his business.

If he works as hard at his game as Tiger used to and still does then we really could have something special on our hands.

McIlroy Ready To Lead Ryder Cup Team

Young Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy admitted he has not set a target in his mind regarding the number of majors he wants to win during his career. I personally think it’s too early to start talking about this kind of stuff, he has only won two majors, maybe let’s start talking about this when he has won another two major’s in the next two years.

McIlroy already has the US Open and USPGA victories under his belt but says he will not base his career on chasing Jack Nicklaus’s record of 18 major victories.

McIlroy’s victory earlier this month in the USPGA moved him back to the top of the World No.1  but  he said the success did not feel anything special to him.

“Life since winning the second one hasn’t changed at all,” he said. “It felt much different than the first. It felt normal, felt like this is what I’m supposed to do, these are the tournaments that I’m supposed to win.”

McIlroy will be the youngest winner of Europe’s Ryder Cup team in the showdown with the USA  in just over 3 weeks, he says he thinks he is ready to be a leader on the team captained by Jose Maria Olazabal.

McIlroy and Woods Go Head-To-Head In Showdown

Yesterday it was announced that there would be a head-to-head match between Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods in an 18-hole exhibition match in China later this year.

McIlroy, who is currently perched at the top of the world rankings after his USPGA triumph, and Woods who is number three at the moment will do battle at the Lake Jinsha International Golf Club.

After McIlroy’s great USPGA victory last weekend major at Kiawah Island it’s prompted renewed comparisons with Woods who has 14 majors to his name and was also number one for many years.

McIlroy completely ran away with the title last week – which included Woods, who was tied for the lead at the halfway stage – to win by an amazing eight-shot margin, which is slightly younger than when Woods won his second major.

Has McIlroy got what it takes to be the greatest of all time? He certainly has the talent, but has he got the mental toughness that Woods used to have?

McIlroy Looked Down And Out

A young man form Northern Ireland who a couple of weeks ago couldn’t seem to string one round together yet alone four and looked like he was going to have to go back to the drawing board and figure out where it had all gone wrong. This  young man is called Rory McIlroy and he had different ideas coming into the US PGA Championship and he was back to his absolute best.

Playing well from day one he looked in okay form for the first two rounds but nothing that made you think he would go on and win, especially in the way that he did.

He held off an incredible challenge from friend and Ryder Cup team mate Ian Poulter to win the US PGA Championship in record-breaking fashion at Kiawah Island with a bogey free final round of 66 leaving everyone in amazement with another eight shot major victory matching his record breaking win at the US Open last year.

It really is a remarkable achievement for a man of that age. So far he is matching the likes of Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, he really is an incredible player and is the best player to watch when he’s on form.

Is the sky’s the limit for McIlroy? Can he do the grand slam?

Well the 94th US PGA Championship is underway  and it was Italy’s Matteo Manassero who started proceedings as he struck the opening tee shot from the tenth tee at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort.

The 19 year old who is the youngest man in the 156-strong field this week took his three wood out the bag, managed to calm his nerves, and hit the left hand side of the fairway on a glorious morning in South Carolina.

With already a touch of humidity in the air there were still forecasts of electrical storms for the afternoon, but with no sign of inclement weather first thing. Let’s hope they manage to get in the full days play today.

A lot of the top players are yet to go off, Luke Donald is currently at one under par after two holes but with still a long way to go. Make sure you catch all the action on Sky Sports tonight!

As you know, I like to have a flutter on the major championships so here are my picks for this week. Just to remind you, I picked the winner of the US Open – Webb Simpson back in June!

Ryder Cup Points Could Produce A European Winner For PGA Championship

As many as 34 Europeans still have the dream of playing in The Ryder Cup alive as they head into the  final major of the year the US PGA Championship at Kiawah Island as the qualification is coming to the end.

The top ten players who will qualify automatically have remained the same after last week’s WGC  Bridgestone Invitational, but they are just in a slightly different order.

Rory McIlroy extended his lead at the top of the European Points List – which will supply the first five players of the European Team and Captain José María Olazábal. The other five will come from the World Points List.

So this really is a decisive week especially with so many points up for grabs, and could maybe could produce a European winner as I’m sure all the players are desperate to make the team and also impress the captain to maybe scrape in through a pick.

Keegan Bradley doesn’t seem to know how to give up especially when he gets a sniff at winning, he’s like one of those annoying people at school that just won’t go away and i’m sure Jim Furyk felt exactly the same way yesterday as Bradley came back from six shots behind with just 13 holes to play to beat fellow Ryder Cup player Jim Furyk to the Bridgestone Invitational title.

It wasn’t all Bradley’s doing though, Furyk was one in front coming down the last, but double bogeyed the 18th to lose. But Bradley did scramble a par when he really never looked like doing so after a visiting a bunker on the 18th but managed to make a 20 footer which turned out to be the winning putt.

Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose were the best-placed Britons finishing level on eight under par and McIlroy showed signs that he was getting back to form just in time for the USPGA Championship next week which Bradley is defending and Said ” He would love to win next week”.

Tiger Woods showed good form on the final day, which will encourage him for next week also. He didn’t  break par in the first two rounds but the world number two signed off with a four-under-par 66.

Bourdy Takes Lead After Fast Start

Grégory Bourdy gave the chasing pack hope when he failed to capitalise on a fantastic start to his Irish Open second round at Royal Portrush.

Bourdy with Indian Jeev Milkha Singh were joint overnight leaders, he eagled the long second and after ten holes had reached 13 under par – three clear of second place.

But after bogeying the par threes 11th and 14th, the 30 year old’s advantage was back down to one again.

Lorenzo Gagli was in second place on ten under after a 66 while Welshman Jamie Donaldson just one further back following a 67 that contained five successive birdies.

Home favourites Rory McIlroy and Darren Clarke both shot 69 to get to five under and four under respectively but still have a lot of work to do if they are to challenge at the weekend.
